Our History
Headway Dorset (Reg.Charity Number 1027594) began in 1993, set up by parents of young people with brain injuries. Headway Dorset promotes a wider understanding of brain injury and provides information, advice and support to people with brain injuries, their families and carers.
The service has gone from strength to strength and now provides a comprehensive, client focused, needs led, community rehabilitation service.
Lead by a Sue Mottram Chief Executive, who is a carer of a brain injured son herself Along with a clinical team of professionals.

Trustees
Headway Dorset has an experienced and highly skilled multi-disciplinary team. The Patrons of Headway Dorset are, Mr Wilfrid Weld, Baroness Maddox Tom Mottram and Annette Brooke MP.
The Trustees are responsible for decision making within the organisation based upon reports and other information prepared by the chief executive. The Articles of Association of the company govern the appointment of Trustees and Trustees retire on rota at the Annual General Meeting and offer themselves for re-election. Headway Dorset currently has seven Trustees, who meet at least quarterly.
Trustees have specific areas of interest and responsibility such as finance, legal issues, fundraising, strategic planning and medical standards.

Adrian Cormarck
Chairman and Company Secretary a personal injury solicitor who brings knowledge of brain injury and legal expertise to the board.
Adrian Stark
Serving police inspector who has suffered an ABI. Qualified trainer who is involved in Headway’s training programme.
Denis Elkin
Retired Associate Director and Head of Strategic Planning, who brings to the board: Long term interest in head injury following responsibility in past for establishing TBI services in East Dorset and subsequently in West Dorset.
Provision of understanding of statutory services context to enable Headway to effectively address operational and long term issues.
Explanation of role of partner agencies in providing services for people with brain injury. Provide strategic and service developmental skills to support Headway development
