Headway Dorset was lucky enough to have received a grant from the Local Network Fund to run a series of DJ workshops. The aim of these were to engage younger people in the rehabilitation process by means of an activity that was relavant to them. The workshops ran over ten weeks and included topics such as music appreciation, and track elements as well as giving the students the opportunity to learn the practical skills such as record manipulation and beat mixing. All those that attended had the chance to record a CD of their work and also received a certificate of achievement.

An evaluation has taken place with those that attended and the rehab staff that supported the group. Staff commented "It has been great to see our young clients learning a new skill in a relaxed environment through an activity that is meaningful to them. They have benefited socially from positive role models and from taking instruction from knowledgeable staff who have great skills in working with, and explaining things to people with differing levels of ability."

Headway Dorset would like to thank Colin Dutfield from Limelights and Poole Youth Service whose help and assistance in this project has been invaluable.

It is hoped that further funding may be available in the future to allow us to run another series of workshops. Please let us know if you are interested.
