Raising Awareness
Headway Dorset work to raise awareness of brain injury and it's effects. We are able to come along to meetings and events to talk about this and our work locally. If you would like us to come along to your meeting, please contact us. We have previously attended meetings of Round Table, Moose International, and have taken part in Bournemouth University's Diversity Week.

Youth Offending Partnership
Headway Dorset works with Dorset Youth Offending Team, providing education sessions to young offenders who may have caused head injuries in committing their offence.
.
We receive referrals from the team and set up sessions on an individual basis. Each session lasts approximately one hour. During the session the young person will meet a person who has sustained their brain injury through an assault so that they can learn first hand the effect that this has had on a real person's life.

All of the feedback from the Youth Offending Team has been excellent and the service is really valued by them. For further information, please contact Kath Baker on 01202 606560 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Student Placements
We work in partnership with Bournemouth and Southampton Universities as a placement for nursing and social work students and with Bournemouth and Poole College and Brockenhurst College. The placement length can vary depending on the course and the needs of the placement. More recently we have also been able to accept Occupational Therapy students from the University of the West of England and Sussex. Please contact Anna Wilson, Clinical Manager on 01202 606560 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to discuss a possible placement.

Professional Training
We are able to provide training to health and social care professionals, care agencies and other organisations. Recent events include our attendance at a Social Services 'Medical Conditions' training day where Headway Dorset gave two presentations on brain injury and its affects to over 90 staff.

If you would like to discuss your training requirements, please contact us on 01202 606560

Cycle Helmet Awareness
Headway Dorset actively promotes the wearing of cycle helmets for all. We run a program of education to ensure that the wearing of helmets is promoted, particularly in schools.20% of brain injuries in children are caused by cycling accidents.
Wearing a helmet reduces the risk of severe head injury by up to 88%.
