Headway Dorset awarded 3 year contract

We have been awarded a 3 year contract for Community Rehabilitation funded by the two Primary Care Trusts and the three Local Authorities in Dorset.  It runs from the 1st October 2009.  Without the continued help and support from our members we would not have achieved this.  The attendance and the consultation meetings, written testomonials and helping with our presentation to the panel really made a difference.  Because of our three year funding we can now apply for other funds.  We could not do this with an annual contract as we were seen as "unsustainable".  We have received £1000.00 from the Modernisation Fund and have put in for a further £10,000 to look into ways of making the charity more robust.  We heard on Monday 16th November that our bid to the "Hardship Fund" had been successful.  We have been awarded £76,060.00 to develop our Buddy Scheme and to work together on how to provide long term support for our members.  The aim of the grant is to give us time to get back on our feet after evictions etc. and to look into a way of ensuring financial viability and to ensure that we develop the service that is needed.  We have to spend the money by September 2010.  We are planning an away day in January for the Clients, Carers, Trustees, and Staff in order to come up with a business plan which will determine the way forward for Headway Dorset.  Once a date and venue is finalised we will let everyone know.  Questionnaires will be sent to people who cannot attend.

Tom's Great Bike Ride -Update
Tom Kelly, Dorset Police Officer Simon Lee and keen cyclist James White completed their 50km cycle ride in aid of Headway Dorset last weekend in appalling weather. It took them five hours but this was with an unscheduled stop of 45 minutes for a puncture repair.
After a live interview on Hope FM and coverage in the Daily Echo, Tom hopes to raise in the region of £1300.
