  • Child cyclist deaths have increased by 55% since 2005.
  • Wearing a helmet when cycling, reduces the risk of severe head injury by up to 88% if involved in an accident.

These statistics are at the forefront of an educational programme that Headway Dorset promote to local school children. Representatives from Headway visit schools to express to children and their parents the importance of wearing a cycle helmet every time they ride their bicycles. This includes an insightful presentation informing the importance of fitting cycle helmets correctly. We bring along a selection of sizes and designs to capture the interest of children and create an interactive atmosphere. The audience also receives a real life story from a brain injured client.

To support the existing presentation framework, Headway Dorset, have also been working with a local production company (Wildfire Production) to create a dynamic and exciting DVD, specifically aimed at children. The DVD features the M-A-D team who are a group of cool mountain bike stunt artists who have been on Blue Peter and tour all over the world. The aim is to improve children’s understanding of keeping safe on our roads and to show it’s cool to wear their cycle helmets.

The DVD will help us to educate the community with the aim of reducing the number of deaths on our roads.
